Paris, the capital city of France, has always attracted visitors from around the world and continues to be one of western culture’s most treasured cities. Situated on the banks of the Seine river and one of the largest European capitals, the Paris metropolitan area is one of the largest in Europe, with about 11.5 million people, while its city center is largely unchanged since 1860. Today Paris is a leading political, business and cultural center, and its influence in politics, education, entertainment, media, fashion, science and the arts all contribute to its status as one of the world’s major global cities.
Paris is known for its neo-classical architecture and is home to some of the finest museums, art galleries and historical monuments, not to mention its exquisite cuisine, on earth. Paris has something for everyone, as each of the 20 arrondissements (or districts) that make up the city take on a life of their own. Students in Paris benefit from its central location in Europe’s geography and its various train stations and airports that connect all corners of the continent for a weekend trip.
